When I first joined Blue Shield in 2005, only big tobacco was more reviled than the health insurance industry. Against that background, we repositioned the brand, redesigned their identity, and launched an ad campaign acknowledging the pain of health insurance. We used humor to defuse the antagonism, and offered Blue Shield as a solution to make health insurance a little easier.
